Background :
   Sharif Oriental Ceramics is a family business that was established fifty years ago . The father ,Saleeem , began to learn the art of pottery at a very early age . He was taught by his father and his father's cousin . At that time , they used to make only unglazed earthenware for household uses . At a later stage , Saleem,  with his sons now skilled enough to help , began to paint and glaze his ware . Each of the five sons is specialized in at least one aspect of ceramics . The father is now retired and the business is managed by his sons.

  Since 1985 , there has been enormous progress and refinement in the art and techniques ; jiggering , slip-casting and more recently ram-pressing were introduced . Many forms and designs were created and old ones were improved .

  Today we are a main supplier of the old Jerusalem market of souvenirs and gifts. We also supply the  markets of Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jericho and Acre. Our products are also available on Jordanian market and are carried mostly by quality souvenir and gift shops. Sharif ceramic products have also been exported to a number of European and Arab countries, including for display and sale in international fairs, such as the Dubai International fairs
